Matakana Village Pub, a great spot to sit outside with a wine or beer and watch the passing parade, the food is excellent, especially the slow cooked meats.

MMK in Matakana, great food, very popular so dinner reservations are important.

Stables, Matakana Country Park (other than the chicken burger) the food is good.

Sandspit Cafe, right on the water when the tide is in, a real Kiwi experience and great food.

Ascension, wonderful Italian food, local wine, great atmosphere.

Plume Cafe, Matakana, excellent bakery, coffee and cafe fare.

Heron’s Flight Winery, relax in the olive grove with pizza and wine over the weekend in the summer.

Take in a movie and a glass of wine at the unique Matakana cinemas

Park in Matakana and walk over the bridge to the north of town and follow the bike path to Morris and James for a lunch and a look at the pottery. They often have live music on Sundays.

Tawharanui Regional Park, the most beautiful beaches around, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, tramping and the best bird watching on mainland NZ...can’t beat it really.

Goat Island Marine Reserve, Leigh, the first no-take marine reserve in the world, right on our door step, fantastic snorkeling and very informative interpretive centre.

Horse Riding at Pakiri Beach, on even just a walk on the lovely long beach.

Brick Bay Sculpture Trail....end up with lovely glass of wine makes for a great afternoon

The Vivian, Leigh Road, fine contemporary art gallery.

Take the ferry from Sandspit to Kawau Island, lunch at the Mansion House cafe and walk out to the old copper mine.

Rent a bike at the Matakana Farm Park and ride the local trails to Point Wells and Omaha.
